Two issues are always important: what and how to teach. The purpose of any system of education is to transfer (share) experience and knowledges to the next generation. Clearly, it is impossible to transfer all things accumulated and gained and there is no need for that. A new generation needs reliable knowledges and positive experience. Teaching quality is to highlight. Not only theoretical knowledges but also practical skills that will allow student without the special complications to apply them in practice in future are required. Due to such tendencies and technical progress different teaching technologies appear which allow enhancing the quality of education.
It has been all more frequently possible to hear a term the “distance learning” lately, although it already existed long ago. Modern information technologies allow developing teaching at new high-quality level. These technologies are used and effectively applied in the distance learning (DL). Therefore, what is a distance learning?
Distance learning is a purposeful process of interactive and synchronous co-operation between a teacher and a student and with facilities of teaching, indifferent to their location in space and time, which will be implemented in the specific didactic system.
Basis of all educational process at DL is purposeful and controlled intensive independent work which can be done in a comfortable place for a student, according to an individual time-table, possessing a complete set of the special teaching aids and concerted possibility of contact with a teacher by phone, by the fax, computer or by ordinary mail, and also by the personal contact (full-time tuition).
With the development of information technologies, the application of the Internet in the distance learning, the education process became more popular. This unique, universal mean gives an opportunity to deliver teacher’s instruction for remote students in any location. Therefore, any type of information is concerned, beginning from a simple text and ending audio and video files.
Dialog possibilities of multimedia in the Internet and websites attract most organizations engaged in the distance learning. Access to the Internet is also instrumental as many students are ready to choose it as a basic source of receiving educational information. Teaching materials can be stored in the Internet in such a way that the student can have an access to them at any time, any place.
Therefore, we attempted to portray with a few strokes the concept of the DISTANCE LEARNING and its accessebility and benefits. At our Institute, a project has been developed for DL. It does not yet work completely, but it is already something we attempted.
The website design for DL is underway and currently being filled with educational courses’ materials, which are taught at ONPU. Therefore, all teachers who wish and are ready for such work are kindly invited for the collaboration.
